Today’s High-tech, No-touch World
We are living in a constantly evolving world where human contact is becoming more infrequent. Why is it happening, and what are the consequences?
Technological advances are growing quicker than the human mind can comprehend. For example, in my younger days it was very common for kids to play games of kickball during the summer, and build snow forts together during the winter. Of course the snowball fights quickly followed, and everyone involved had a good time. We laughed, we felt the mind-numbing cold around us, but it did not matter. We were having fun!
The fun of our youth has been replaced by interactive applications that we now use to contact each other like Facebook and Twitter. We use cell phones, iPhones, iPads, and ever-increasing smaller products to connect with each other in much more informal ways than ever before! Think about it: When was the last time you used a regular phone or had written a personal letter to a family member or a friend?
You do not feel the need to do these things, because society is becoming so advanced that it has made human to human contact less likely. We use drones to fight wars now, and our governments can pinpoint your location and eavesdrop on your personal interactions with others via satellite technology flying through the earth’s orbit!
It is amazing how our society has become so un-personalized in such a short amount of time. It’s mind-boggling that Nanotechnology is furthering the non-evolution of contact, and it is stretching us further and further apart. Essentially, it is de-humanizing us!
While technology is crucial to our survival in this world of 7+ billion people, we also must not forget that human to human contact is critical for our survival. What if computers crashed or a cataclysmic event caused us to rely on direct human contact to survive? The world would panic, and chaos would erupt on a global scale. Our earth that we take advantage of so much was not meant to sustain such a large number of people. One day, this planet may decide to shake us off like a bad case of fleas. Then, the evolutionary process would have no choice but to start over. Scary thought? More frightening is the concept that this could happen at any time in our lives or our future generations’ lives!
Stop and take the time to talk to your family, friends, a neighbor, and re-establish the personal bond that all of us need, but we are in extreme lack of due to the fast-paced speedway of a world in which we live.
